What the buyer says

Hertfordshire County Council (HCC), acting as the Waste Disposal Authority (WDA), is responsible for managing the clinical waste received at its transfer station network across Hertfordshire. This network comprises two principal transfer stations located at Garston (Watford) and Ware, together with a smaller facility at Hitchin. The two main transfer stations receive clinical waste collected by the County's 10 Waste Collection Authorities (WCAs). Only nine use HCC Transfer Stations, 1 makes their own arrangements. Upon arrival, the waste is securely stored in 770-litre containers, within designated, compliant storage areas prior to collection by HCC's contracted service provider, Reconomy. There is circa 110 770ltr bins in circulation which is audited weekly to make sure we have sufficient resources for the WCA. The current contract is in place until 27 March 2027 with a 12-month extension if agreeable to both parties. The contract encompasses the collection of clinical waste from the transfer stations on a twice-weekly basis, together with the subsequent treatment and disposal of the waste through appropriately permitted processes, including autoclaving and high-temperature incineration, in accordance with relevant environmental and legislative requirements.
